New signs and disability ramp for Marines Hut

disability ramp Children and people with disabilities will now have a better view of the interior exhibition in our newly restored US Marines Hut – thanks to the recent installation of a disability ramp by great volunteers from the Kapiti MenzShed.

The ramp sits beneath the front viewing window, where visitors are able to see the interior exhibition of over 26 heritage items – things that would’ve been standard equipment in the huts or standard gear owned and used by Marines during their encampment between 1942 and 1944. at the time. Exterior signage, telling the story of the exhibition, has also been installed recently.

Members of the public, visiting the Memorial site are encouraged to visit the hut to learn more about the Marines story. In the short-term, the Trust warns that there is still finishing work required at either end of the disability ramp to complete it and make it safe.
