The seventh annual Kapiti Joggers and Walkers “In the Footsteps of the Marines” charity event takes place at Whareroa Farm, north of Paekakariki, on Sunday 27th May 2018.
Owing to the likely unavailability of Waterfall Road, this year’s event will be entirely in Whareroa Farm and on Campbell’s Mill Road.
Run or walk in the hills behind Camp Mackay, where the Marines trained in 1942-1943.
There will be three categories, as in previous years:
• Race Walkers
• Social Walkers and Slow Joggers
• Runners (able to run 11 kms @ 7 minutes per km rate or faster)
However, this year we will have only two starts:
• 9.30 am – Race Walkers, AND Social Walkers and Slow Joggers
• 10.00 am – Runners
Each category will have its own coloured race numbers and its own finish chute.
There will be a longer and a shorter course:
• 9.5 kms for Social Walkers and Slow Joggers
• 11.5 kms for Race Walkers AND Runners.
Both courses involve hill tracks and unsealed roads, and have uphill sections of approximately 4 – 5 kms in total, so a good standard of fitness is required. Distances are approximate.
Our event is kindly sponsored by Pak’nSave, the Print Room, Cityfitness, and other local businesses which have generously donated spot prizes.
This year, major donations will be made to Life Flight Trust and the Kapiti Women’s Refuge.
